The New England Revolution on Monday signed defender Collin Verfurth, the first player ever promoted from their USL League One expansion team, Revolution II.

Verfurth, 24, was on the Revs II roster this winter but their inaugural season was suspended before it began due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"Collin made a good impression on our staff and players over the past two weeks, and it became apparent to us that he would be a good addition to our roster," Revolution sporting director and head coach Bruce Arena said in a team release. "We anticipate that Collin will continue to contribute to Revs II as well as offer important depth to our backline."

Verfurth will join New England for the MLS is Back Tournament at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex near Orlando. The Revs open Group C action on Thursday against the Montreal Impact.

Verfurth played for the Loudoun United of the USL Championship as a rookie in 2019, appearing in 23 games with 22 starts and one assist. He also appeared in two international friendlies for D.C. United.

He signed with Revolution II on Jan. 7.

Verfurth was a four-year starter at Virginia Tech, tallying nine goals in 72 games from 2014-17.
